Ground Screw Installations | Sports clubhouse

OVERVIEW

Green foundations for a bowling club’s clubhouse

Recognised as having one of the best bowling greens in Kent, The Empire Bowls Club were looking for a foundation solution for their new 19.8m x 8.4m sports clubhouse that would avoid damaging their immaculate bowling green and cause minimal disruption to the surrounding area.

Having explored conventional building methods for their foundations, which were proving costly due to the scale of the project, they decided to contact our installation division for a more economically viable and sustainable option. They had concerns about a slight slope in one corner of their site and were hopeful ground screws would overcome this challenge.

The complete construction of the clubhouse, from foundations to building, was also required within a tight timeframe during the non-bowling winter months to be functional by the start of the new season in mid-April.

SOLUTION

Efficient, low-carbon ground screw foundations

Sustainable foundations for buildings

The customer contacted our installation division, having seen ground screws being utilised for a project on a well-known television programme, unsure if they would provide a feasible solution for the sloping area where the clubhouse would sit.

After initial discussions, a survey, and point load tests, all questions were answered, and it was specified that the vast majority of the base would be completed using 62 RADIX PRO 76x1250mm Ground Screws, with a further 10 x RADIX PRO 76x1550mm Ground Screws, which were left exposed to raise the level to match the rest of the base.

Once the installation of the ground screw foundations was complete, a custom timber subframe was manufactured off-site in manageable cassettes, brought to the site, and secured, ready for construction to begin immediately.

Towards the end of the project, the Building Control Officer attended the site and assessed the ground screw installation in great detail, commending the team on the fantastic solution. At RADIX, we back what we say with highly detailed technical information, so our customers know exactly what they get from us… Quality and value! The advantages of ground screws and screw piles, speak for themselves.

The entire project installation lasted only two days, and the clubhouse is ready for the start of the season, complete with a social area, bar, toilets, and changing rooms.
