Supernode Completes Stage 1 and Connects to Queensland Grid

Australia’s landmark Supernode project in Queensland has achieved a major milestone, with the completion and energisation of Stage 1 now confirmed. Project developer Quinbrook has announced that the first stage of the development has been successfully connected to the state’s transmission system via Powerlink’s Southpine substation.
As part of the project RADIX worked in exclusive partnership with NuEnergy and alongside local delivery partner Foundation Technologies Australia (FTA) to provide the engineered screw pile foundations and custom steel platforms needed to support CATL battery units, PCS skids, MV infrastructure and switch rooms.
With an initial capacity of 260MW / 929MWh, Stage 1 is the foundation of a multi-stage build that will ultimately deliver 780MW / 3,074MWh of storage capacity. Quinbrook Chief Executive Officer Brian Restall said energisation was “a critical step towards Supernode achieving full commercial operations,” highlighting the close collaboration with Powerlink Queensland and Origin Energy.
James Allan, Senior Director at Quinbrook, added: “The Supernode project is a game-changer for Queensland. It is not just about powering the grid; it marks a significant leap forward in firming and renewable energy integration.”
RADIX will continue to deliver the screw pile foundations and integrated steel platform systems required for the next phases of Supernode. Stage 2 will add a further 260MW of capacity under offtake to Origin Energy, Stage 3 will deliver another 260MW with Stanwell Corporation, and Stage 4 is in advanced development with an 8-hour CATL system. Through our partnership with NuEnergy and FTA, RADIX is already engaged to support these future stages, ensuring structural certainty, accelerated delivery and sustainability benefits remain at the core of the project.
From the earliest foundation works through to the energisation of Stage 1, RADIX has been an integral part of Supernode’s progress. Together with NuEnergy and FTA, we have delivered the speed, precision and sustainability advantages that modern BESS infrastructure demands.
