Grid Connection Offers Delayed Again as Gate 2 Reform Extends Programme Uncertainty

The National Energy System Operator (NESO) has confirmed further delays to the rollout of Gate 2 grid connection offers, extending uncertainty for projects scheduled to connect across 2026 and 2027.

For Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, the impact is not limited to grid administration. Revised connection timelines can compress construction windows, disrupt sequencing and place pressure on early-stage engineering packages to mobilise quickly once firm dates are confirmed.

At RADIX, we see this dynamic placing greater emphasis on structural readiness before civils commence. Where connection dates move, elements that can be engineered, tested and verified upstream become increasingly valuable in protecting overall programme certainty.

RADIX has delivered over 29 battery storage projects in the past five years, contributing to more than 2.5GW of BESS infrastructure across the UK and international markets. Our experience spans multiple battery OEM platforms, including CATL, BYD, Sungrow, SMA and Canadian Solar systems, with each project supported by full QA documentation, pile logs and permit-to-load certification.

As Gate 2 reform progresses and offer timelines evolve, structural certainty remains a controllable variable. While grid dates may shift, early engineering alignment, verified load performance and coordinated installation capability allow projects to respond decisively when connection windows are confirmed.

We will continue to monitor developments within the Gate 2 process and support clients with the engineering depth and mobilisation readiness required to deliver grid-connected energy infrastructure with confidence.
